CONCEPTUAL WORK
People go to hospitals for several reasons: They might be ill, in need of emergency treatment for an injury, or seeking cosmetic surgery. I got the ideas for my conceptual work from medical instruments. These instruments had a natural influence on me as I spent my childhood living in my father¡¯s hospital. Many of my works are related to pain. Like people who endure pain for beauty and health, you will also need to experience discomfort to fully appreciate these works.

The idea for this work came from a medical appliance used for my orthodontic treatment. While a mask typically functions to protect or hide the face, the mask I made looks better, showing large dimensions of the face. The process of wearing the mask, however, is a painful one. It involves hanging a rubber band on the mask and biting it. Also, one¡¯s mouth cannot open when using this mask.
