| CONCEPTUAL WORK | ||
| People go to hospitals for several reasons: They might be ill, in need of emergency treatment for an injury, or seeking cosmetic surgery. I got the ideas for my conceptual work from medical instruments. These instruments had a natural influence on me as I spent my childhood living in my father¡¯s hospital. Many of my works are related to pain. Like people who endure pain for beauty and health, you will also need to experience discomfort to fully appreciate these works. | ||
| The idea for this work came from a medical appliance used for my orthodontic treatment. While a mask typically functions to protect or hide the face, the mask I made looks better, showing large dimensions of the face. The process of wearing the mask, however, is a painful one. It involves hanging a rubber band on the mask and biting it. Also, one¡¯s mouth cannot open when using this mask. | ||
